The Portage County Public Library Board of Trustees recently announced it hired Larry Oathout to be the new Portage County Public Library director. Oathout earned a bachelor’s degree in radio, TV and film from Indiana State University and worked in the radio industry for many years before pursuing a career in libraries. He has two master’s degrees, one in speech communication from Eastern Illinois University and one in library science from the University of Illinois.
The winners of Best of Show have been announced for the Portage County Fair of Rosholt held Friday through Monday, Sept. 2 through Sept. 5. The winners in their categories included:
Henry and Lorraine Tork recently celebrated their 70th anniversary with dinner at Michele’s Restaurant Wednesday, Sept. 14, and a reception held at their home with family and friends Saturday, Sept. 17.
Aaron Suehring and Elizabeth Silvernale were married Aug. 13, 2016. Aaron is the son of Bob and Sue Suehring, Junction City, and Elizabeth is the daughter of Willy and Robin Silvernale, Foxboro.
As usual, I come away from interviewing Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteers for these articles feeling amazed and humbled by the people I meet. Ruth Duda is no exception. The 84-year-old has been an RSVP volunteer for 17-1/2 years and is still going strong.
